Is Exercising Alone or With Other People More Beneficial?
Mon 01 02 2021

You might have found yourself more than once in a situation where you wished you were alone in the gym, practicing that exercise that you think you look embarrassing doing it wrong. However, there are many times, when you leave after a class, feeling so energetic and excited by the energy of everyone who was in the room. While these two kinds of working out might give you different feelings, which one is more beneficial for you?

Working out alone:

Working out alone lets you take control of your schedule; you can train the time you want without being influenced by other people’s availability. Furthermore, working out alone helps you achieve the specific goals you have for your own body and health. Exercising by yourself lets you set your own goals. Also, it allows you to focus well than when you have someone around doing the same routine. This is true because you will not spend talking to them or comparing with the other people in the gym. Furthermore, customizing your workout to your goals and needs is the main benefit of working out alone. In the middle of a fitness class doing regular squats you cannot do another type of squats just because it is the one that is useful for your goal. It can be the other way around; if the whole class is doing a difficult exercise that you are not able to apply you cannot limit your workout due to this. Therefore, working out alone is a great solution when your goals and aims are different than the ones the other people you are working out with have. Not putting your physical aims as a priority can lead you to injuries and make your sore or unable to move for a period of time.

Working out with other people or in a group:

Studies and research have shown that working out with a group of people is good for your mental health and wellbeing. If you are looking for a working out session that will leave you happy then you might need to consider this; working out with a group is proved to meaningfully lower your stress levels and progress your quality of life in general.

Exercising in groups is more fun than being alone, you are allowed to goof around a little bit during the workout, and it decreases your energy levels for the whole session. Some sort of friendly competition is present among the group which pushes you to your limits, in order to prove your ability to make the best out of this workout.

It has been proven that being tired with other people is motivating and uplifting, and these two concepts are much needed by everyone. Remember the days when you said, “I wish I can skip the gym today”? Well these are the days when a workout in group would be very useful for you. Therefore, when you feel unmotivated, call your gym buddies or join a class in the gym for the best motivation possible. And if you slack during the workout, they will be there to hold you accountable.

Will you work out alone or in a group from now on?
