Are you overeating? Here is how to stop
Tue 31 03 2020

Overeating can be caused by many effects such as times of stress or hormonal imbalances. In all cases, it could be disturbing and you would want to control it. Therefore, in order to avoid making overeating a part of your daily life habits, make sure that you adopt the following tips to be in control of your eating habits.

1. Do not wait until you are very hungry to eat

Being very hungry makes you want to eat everything you see. Have you ever been in such a situation where you wanted to order a salad but ended up eating the biggest burger on the menu? Hunger not only makes you take unhealthy decisions but it also makes you want to eat more in order to compensate for the hunger hours. For this reason, make sure you always have a snack with you, especially during the times when you don’t know when you will be having your big meal. This will help keep hunger at minimal levels to avoid making unhealthy choices and overeating.

2. Identify hunger

Every time you see yourself heading to the fridge, ask yourself: “Am I hungry? Am I hungry enough to have a full platter of lunch or dinner food?” if the answer is yes, then you might be hungry. If the answer is no, then you are probably overeating.

3. Drink lots of fluids

Fluids can help ease the habit of overeating especially before you eat. Fluids can fill your stomach breaking the hunger and pushing you to avoid not only overeating but also eating very fats which could encourage overeating later.

4. Turn into mindful eating

When you order a meal or cook one, take a second to think of what you are actually eating. Think of where is this dish originally from, what it is made of, how much work it took to make it. Even though you might think this is a silly step, but doing so not only makes you more appreciative but also encourages you to be slower eating which helps in cutting the overeating.

5. Stay away from distractions while eating

When you go to the kitchen to eat, do not take your cellphone with you. Also, make it a habit to eat somewhere with no television. Avoid taking your food to the TV room or living room, where you can eat and watch or play PlayStation. This will help you be focused on your eating actions making you eat slower and in better and healthier manners.

6. Fill your fridge with healthy options

Whenever you have the urge of going to the fridge and finding something to eat, it will be easier for you to grab a cake or a bar of chocolate or anything that is loaded with sugar, fat, and calories. For this reason, every time you go to the supermarket, think of these moments and avoid buying such foods. Instead buy healthy fruits, some nuts and dried fruits, zero fat yogurt drinks, etc.
