How did COVID-19 Change the Fitness Industry?
Mon 21 06 2021

COVID-19 is predicted to change all of the post-pandemic aspects of our lives and the fitness sector is no exception. Consumer behavior has changed as people are more working out using unusual ways such as home workouts and working out online with their coaches. So how exactly will the fitness industry become after the COVID-19 pandemic? The following article exposes 5 possible changes that the fitness industry will experience.

1. The gym experience will be different

When gyms will be able to operate again, people might have different experiences than in the past. Going to the gym might feel more like a personal training experience, as clients will be working out in an environment that is not crowded. Working out with groups of people might become impossible. Gyms and fitness businesses will be reducing the number. There will be very few people working out close to each other. Rather than having a gym full of people you might have to make an appointment to go workout.

2. Gyms will be cleaned more carefully

From now on cleaning gyms to keep the dust away is just basic cleaning. Equipment and machines will be sanitized with special products that are disinfectant to keep the germs away. Cleaning could happen between a customer and another to stop the spreading of bacteria and germs. Also, sanitization for individuals could be available so customers can clean their hands and their belongings before coming in and going out.

3. People are converting to digital workouts

Quarantine was all about home workouts since gyms were closed. Trainers and gyms started adapting to this type of demand by creating workouts that are suitable for the audience. Some people who did not work out before that period decided to start doing so as they saw that it is convenient for them. Studies have shown that many people will still be following online workouts even after gyms will get back on track. Fear of viruses could continue even after the COVID-19 ends which would push people to seek safety as much as possible by staying away from very crowded places when it is not necessary.

4. Memberships will be different

Now that people have experienced what it feels like to pay money and see their membership go to waste, they are less willing to commit to long-term memberships. Fewer risk and money flexibility will now matter more for subscribers. Also, as mentioned before, there will be a new shift towards online workouts. Fitness studios could start offering online memberships with live courses, which could invite members to sign up again or more. Live and online classes and training will become a huge part of fitness memberships.

5. Working out as a family or house companions

Since you’ve been locked down with the people who live with you in the house, you might have developed the habit of working out with them. A new trend that might come up soon, which revolves around working out with your parents, kids, or even your closest friends. Kids’ fitness is an important thing that was given little attention until a few months ago, and quarantine opened people’s eyes to it. For this reason, there are now more reasons to work out from home and not alone.
