Benchmarks are standards by which you evaluate yourself. Using them in fitness is important to help you know if you are improving or not, they also help you reach your goals better. Benchmarks allow you to compare your performance with time. Start by recording your level in every exercise or training you’d like to improve in so that when you start with your routine to improve yourself, you can go back to these records and compare them with your present performance. 

Benchmarks are considered as a GPS for fitness. It will help you reach your destination by telling you where you are and by specifying the end destination for you. With a benchmark, you can track your progress to better reach your goal.

These are a great way to help you plan your workout and know that it will lead to success. All your plans will be focused on generating results. Therefore, you won’t be going to the gym without knowing what you will be doing and why you are performing these specific exercises. You will have a to-do list that will help you reach your goals, on which you plan and create your workout schedule for every session, planning out each and every exercise, from the planks and push-ups to your weightlifting sessions.

1. Make a plan and keep it

Having a plan keeps you focused and knowing your direction. It will help you know what is the next step to follow when you achieve something. Anyone with a plan can reach success if they stick to that plan and respect it. 

2. Work out with a purpose

In order to create a plan, you need to have an end goal in mind, so that you know how to create that plan. It is not enough to work out because you like going to the gym. But instead, you must know why you are doing so, is it because you have a health issue that you need to improve, do you want to lose weight, are you sculpting your 6 packs? Knowing your purpose helps create the appropriate plan.

3. Drink more fluids

Working out means that you need to replace the minerals and fluids that your body has lost by sweating. Therefore you must keep your body hydrated. Adding coconut water to your water bottle can be extra helpful as, like a sports drink, it contains electrolytes, and combining it with water can help hydrate you enough. To know the amount of water your body needs, you can take your current weight in pounds, divide it in half to get the amount of water in ounces that you need to consume daily. 

4. Have Fun

Exercising does not have to bore you or make you feel exhausted. You do not have to feel like you want to escape your training session. Therefore, make sure that you chose the workout that makes you enjoy your time and look forward to work out and train.
